Dr. Mitul Shah, a 2008 graduate, embarked on a journey of dental excellence by initially honing his skills through collaboration with seasoned dentists in private clinics. His dedication to mastering various facets of dentistry led him to pursue further training at the esteemed Royal Hospital of Melbourne, where he successfully completed his registration exam in 2012. For six years, Dr. Shah served as a principal dentist in Ingham (QLD), accumulating valuable experience and expertise. In 2018, driven by a desire to be closer to his family, he made the decision to relocate to Newcastle. There, he continued to contribute to the field of dentistry as a part of the Bupa Dental team. In February 2020, realizing his dream, Dr. Shah took the next step in his dental journey by establishing and launching his own dental practices—Medowie Dental and Stockton Dental. These thriving practices reflect his unwavering commitment to providing exceptional dental care to the community.
Dr. Garima Shah earned her dental degree in 2011, marking the beginning of her remarkable journey in dentistry. Following her graduation, she embarked on a path of continuous learning and professional growth. Driven by a commitment to excellence, she sought opportunities to collaborate with highly skilled dentists in private clinics, further enhancing her skills and knowledge. In 2014, Dr. Shah successfully cleared the Australia Dental Council exam, a significant milestone in her career. Subsequently, she dedicated herself to serving the community as a Senior Dental Officer in Ingham and Townsville Hospital, where she contributed to the well-being of numerous patients. With the desire to be closer to her family, Dr. Shah made the pivotal decision to relocate to Newcastle, a move that marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life. It was in Newcastle that she welcomed her first child, a beautiful daughter, into the world. Dr. Shah continued to pursue her passion for dentistry in the Newcastle area, working as an Associate Dentist at Charlestown Dental Centre and other private clinics, where she continued to provide top-notch dental care to her patients. In February 2020, in partnership with her husband, Dr. Mitul Shah, she realized her dream of establishing their own dental practice. This commitment to their community and profession culminated in the opening of their dental practices, an achievement they both take great pride in.
Dr. Hose Kim, a 2018 graduate of Griffith University while residing on the Gold Coast, joined our team in September 2022. Alongside his dental practice, he is pursuing further studies in orthodontics, aiming to provide exceptional orthodontic care and help patients achieve their dream smiles. Hose is known for his friendly demeanor and unwavering dedication to ensuring every patient feels at ease and leaves our practice with a positive experience. He possesses a remarkable ability to connect with children and provide gentle care. Currently based in Newcastle, Hose devotes his full-time efforts to both of our dental surgeries, Medowie & Stockton Dental.
Dr.May Hefny is an associate general dentist who joined our team in October 2023. Dr. May graduated in 2003 and had her bachelor degree in oral and dental medicine and surgery from Ain-shams university, Cairo , Egypt . She worked then in the dental clinic of private hospital in Egypt. She completed her master degree in 2011 at same university , she gained experience in different aspects of general dentistry. She passed the Australian Dental Council examinations in 2019. she has special interest in Root canal treatment and she is competent in different aspects of general dentistry. She is very good caring and gentle in nature and has been looking after his 80 year old father. She loves reading and learning and always proactie.
Sophie, our Front Office Coordinator at Medowie Dental, joined our team in January 2022. Since then, she has embraced the dental industry and aspires to expand her role within the business. Sophie is passionate about assisting people and finds joy in witnessing patients leave our practice with smiles on their faces. Outside of work, she stays active at the gym and enjoys adventurous outings with her partner and two dogs. You’ll often find her welcoming guests at the reception desk, and occasionally, she lends a hand in the dental surgery.
Anna, who joined our team in 2021 as a dental assistant, has since transitioned into the role of Front Office Coordinator. Holding a certificate in Dental Assisting, Anna is passionate about her work in the dental field. Her enthusiastic and hardworking nature, combined with a genuine desire to assist others, makes her a valuable member of our team. Anna’s weekends are often spent at the beach or enjoying brunch outings with friends. While you’ll primarily find her at the front reception, she’s always ready to lend a hand in the surgery when needed.
Carrie, our dental assistant since May 2023, embarked on her first venture into the dental industry with us.Carrie derives immense satisfaction from assisting individuals in improving their health, knowing that they are receiving the care they require. Witnessing the happiness on patients’ faces after achieving positive results brightens her day. She finds her role both fascinating and rewarding, constantly learning and growing. Carrie’s warm and welcoming demeanor shines at our bustling practice as she wholeheartedly assists patients, takes the time to understand their health and concerns, and lends a helping hand to our dentists.
Ann initiated her dental journey in 2013 as a Bachelor of Dental Surgery student in the UK. She is presently a dental assistant at our practice while pursuing her dental studies to become a licensed practitioner in Australia. As she works in tandem with our dentists, Ann is actively expanding her knowledge and accumulating valuable dental experience for her future career. Beyond her professional pursuits, Ann enjoys swimming and actively participates in salsa dancing classes, embracing a well-rounded life outside of dentistry.
Ma Loisa Anne Stead is a registered nurse in Philippines and Australia who also has a passion in dentistry and has been working as a dental assistant since 2016. She enjoys making a difference in patients’ lives. For her, it is very rewarding to see patients’ smiles transform and how it builds their self-esteem. Working in Medowie and Stockton Dental since 2021 under the management of Dr. Garima Shah and Dr. Mitul Shah, Loisa is able to continue her love for dentistry and serve as a RN at the same time.
I am Marielo, I became a registered nurse in the Philippines while working as a lady guard at International School Manilla also supporting my 3 children as a single mother . I am now married to a wonderful Australian man who became the father of my 3 children . I love the beach, gardening and I especially love Roses as well as eating out and travel . In my time in Australia I have seen this beautiful country from Brisbane to Adelaide and eveywhere in between traveling with my husband. I possess a strong foundation in healthcare, my background as a registered nurse in the Philippines allows me to understand the importance of patient comfort and safety. I enjoy building relationships with patients and helping them feel at ease during their visits, alleviating any anxiety patients may have about dental procedures. The collaborative nature of working alongside dentists and other dental professionals appeals to me. I appreciate being part of a team that shares the common goal of promoting oral health and providing quality care. This process gives me a sense of purpose. Overall, my transition from nursing to being a dental assistant has allowed me to leverage my skills while embracing new challenges within an environment that prioritizes patient care and professional development.
I’m Halimah, I recently joined the Medowie Dental and Stockton Dental team in 2024 as a dental assistant after finishing high school and my AIN’s at TAFE. I will soon be beginning my nursing studies in University and am looking forward to it. I’m looking to expand my knowledge and skills in the healthcare sector and am thoroughly enjoying working alongside the lovely team. Outside of work I enjoy hanging out with friends, shopping and reading. Although I am primarily a dental assistant I occasionally lend a hand at front of desk.
I love working as a Dental Assistant in a professional, team-orientated, fast-paced, challenging and rewarding environment. Working in dental industry is never mundane. It is an ever changing environment and always on your feet. Through my experience working as a DA, I find out that most people are terrified visiting the dentists and some have troubles sleeping a night before their appointment .I think to be able to provide compassionate and emphatic attitude towards the patient at all times is essential. I enjoyed helping our highly skilled dentists and oral hygienist to make sure patient feel calm, relax and confident throughout their appointment. I understand that our primary job responsibilities is to ensure patient’s safety and comfort. I love and take pride of my work in doing everything I can as a team. Working in dental environment is a challenging sometimes. It is very important to show professional demeanour at all times which play an important role in patient satisfaction. You will meet unhappy patients, and patients who are in pain .I need to be able to communicate effectively with various type of people -from patients of all ages,to dental staff and dentists.It teaches me to be more resilient and dedicated to always do my best. Part of being a good communicator is knowing how to listen. I am fond of interacting with patients every day from all ages and different walks of life and listen to their stories. I find dental assisting as incredibly rewarding role that allows me to help others and able to improve people’s confidence, health and well-being. Supporting our dentists and oral hygienist, make patients comfortable and listened to. I find it meaningful and purposeful .It is pleasurable to see patients pain free, happy and satisfied for the service we provide.
Dr. Rahul Nadkarni is a dedicated and compassionate dentist who prioritizes patient well-being. His genuine care and approachable demeanor foster strong patient relationships. With a commitment to ethical, honest, and evidence-based dentistry, he takes the time to understand each patient’s unique needs, crafting personalized treatment plans that instill confidence and comfort. Dr. Rahul’s expertise, honed through a Masters in Periodontics and Oral Implantology and certification in Advanced Oral Implantology from Rajiv Gandhi University (India) in 2014, is further enhanced by his continuous pursuit of the latest dental techniques and technologies. Registered as a general dentist in Australia after passing the Australian Dental Council exams in 2024, Dr. Rahul brings over a decade of experience, with a particular passion for gum disease treatment and dental implants. He believes in empowering patients with knowledge, recognizing the mouth as a reflection of overall health.
Ashleigh has been apart of the dental industry for over 10 years, starting out as a Dental assistant. She then went on to further her studies completing a Bachelor Of Oral Health Therapy in 2018 after falling in love with the field. Her passion is Oral Health prevention and education, treating and helping patients of all ages helping bring confidence and health forward with a holistic approach. She is known for her friendly, kind and caring manner with the ability to put anxious patients at ease. Ashleigh enjoys, gardening, travelling, cooking, textiles and spending time with her family enjoying all that Port Stephens has to offer. You’ll find her at the beach or making frequent visits to Spotlight and Plant markets.

I am passionate about a comprehensive range of dental services, including cosmetic enhancements, restorative procedures, surgical extractions, prosthodontics, and all aspects of general dentistry.
Having passed the Australian Dental Council (ADC) exam in 2021, my journey in dentistry began after graduating in 2015. I gained valuable experience working as a family dentist for four years in Iran before making Australia my new home. I am eager to bring my skills and dedication to Medowie Dental.
Outside of the practice, I find joy and connection through dancing, long walks, and cooking for those I care about. I believe these passions enrich my life and, in turn, enhance my ability to connect with and care for my patients. I am truly looking forward to meeting you, understanding your dental needs, and working together to ensure your smile remains healthy and bright for years to come.
